Getting ready for winter

October 13, 2020:

Started the first fire in our woodstove today. Jordan sprayed it and it looks new. The stove is over 30 years old and keeps us very warm….

Old Faithful

After melting several stoves way back when..my late wife Donna took our tax return and bought it without my knowledge. I was so mad at her. But…here we are 30 years later and it still works.

Alissa came downstairs and said the wood fire made it feel like Christmas. I understand… It really is a nice feeling, especially on rainy days.

So Jordan has been clearing out the back woods. I use to clean out paths into the deep woods but the jungle always wants to move in. Plenty of trees have gone down and now that the tractor is working Jordan is cleaning it up. Nice to see it cleared up. It is a good walk..almost 2,000 feet to the end.

End of the Land

Deep Woods

He has a chain and drags these logs back to the house. I use to do the same thing. That tractor is like a strong animal.

Logs from the Woods

I am proud of Jordan he is tenacious. One of the large tires started to leak the salt water in it used as ballast. We had a tough time getting the tire off…it had been on for 30 years. Jordan watched a YouTube video and got it off with a sledge. We also got help from Uncle Stu and our neighbor Mr. Coffee. But it was Jordan who got it off.

He took the tire to Middleburg and found out Alan Robinson was working there. Alan is the son of my late wife’s niece. We got the news that the tire needed a new rim. That was hard to find. Jordan worked the phones and found one in Glen, about 30 miles away.

We all got in the car and went and got it. The girls saw the Amish with their horses and buggies. We took the rim to Middleburg and then found out we needed special bolts. Jordan worked the phone and found them in Albany. Back to Middleburg.

So we finally got the tire back and Jordan somehow got that heavy tire onto the tractor.

Victory, Money, Time and Jordan’s tenacious effort.

Tire Repaired

Our next project…a small shed to store garden tractor and bikes. We have the 2X4s and Jordan went and got the plywood needed for the floor and roof. I called Stemples and ordered the wood for the frame.

I feel good about all this action.
